Synopsis:
Eddie Slocum, a naïve farm boy from Indiana, enlists at Fort Bragg to become a paratrooper like his uncle. He endures basic training alongside recruits from diverse backgrounds—most notably the bully Rocky and the smooth-talking Mouse—and gradually earns their respect through courage and teamwork. A romance with local girl Jenny May adds a subplot, while conflicts with Rocky culminate in a dramatic first jump where Eddie’s quick thinking saves Rocky’s life, forging bonds of true comradeship.
Trivia:
- Airborne lapsed into the public domain when its copyright was not renewed.
- The U.S. Army cooperated in production, filming at Fort Bragg and dedicating the film to veterans of the 82nd Airborne Division.
- Technical advisor Capt. Ernest L. Basciano ensured authentic parachute training sequences, using a Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar for the jump scenes.
